House cleaning Checklist Montreal

How do we clean a Montreal house?

We clean every home in the same order: top to bottom, dry to wet, and the dirtiest rooms first, so dust never falls on a surface we’ve already cleaned. Kitchen and bathrooms get the most time, floors are always last, and every visit is adapted to your home, your pets and your priorities. Here’s exactly what happens when The Montreal Maids arrive at your door, room by room.

Our method in 4 simple rules

Top to bottom: shelves and surfaces first, floors last, so dust only falls on what’s still to be cleaned

Dry before wet: we dust and vacuum before we wash, so we don’t turn dust into mud

Right product for each surface: hardwood, tile, marble and stainless steel don’t get the same treatment

Your priorities first: if the kitchen matters most to you, that’s where we spend the time

The kitchen

The kitchen is where grease, crumbs and fingerprints build up fastest, so we start here.

Countertops, tables and backsplash

Cabinet fronts and handles

Sink and faucet, cleaned and shined

Outside of the appliances: stove top, microwave, fridge and dishwasher doors

Garbage taken out

Floor vacuumed, then washed

Inside the oven and inside the fridge can be added on request, or included in a Deep Cleaning Montreal visit.

The bathrooms

Bathrooms deal with moisture and daily use, so they get extra attention.

Toilet, inside and out, including the base

Sink, faucet and countertop

Shower, bathtub and tiles

Mirrors without streaks

Corners where soap residue and dust collect

Floor vacuumed, then washed

For a deep clean, we also work on grout, shower doors and baseboards.

Bedrooms and living areas

Dusting of furniture, shelves, tables and windowsills

Mirrors and glass surfaces

Cleaning around and behind accessible furniture, so dust doesn’t hide underneath

Beds made or sheets changed, on request

Garbage emptied

Floors and carpets vacuumed

Floors: always last

We vacuum carpets, rugs and stairs, then wash hard floors with the right method for each surface. Hardwood needs very little water and a gentle cleaner, while tile can handle a proper wash. The goal is a clean floor without damaging its finish.

Montreal winter: salt, snow and slush

Every Montrealer knows the white marks that appear on floors from November to April. Road salt and calcium chloride come in on boots and leave a chalky film that ordinary mopping just spreads around. It can dull hardwood and stain the grout near your door.

In winter, we give entrances extra attention: boot trays, door mats and the first meters of flooring. We remove salt residue with a cleaner adapted to the floor, instead of plain water. A good tip between visits: keep a boot tray at the door and ask guests to take their shoes off.

The details that make the difference

A home can look clean at first glance and still feel unfinished. That’s why we look at the small things:

Door handles and light switches

Baseboards and corners

Cabinet fronts

Mirrors and glass

High-touch surfaces like handles and switches are where germs collect, especially in winter.

Regular cleaning or deep cleaning?

Regular cleaning keeps a home that’s already in good shape clean: dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and floors.

Deep cleaning goes further: buildup, detailed bathroom and kitchen work, baseboards and areas that haven’t been touched in a while. If your home hasn’t been professionally cleaned for some time, starting with a deep clean makes every regular visit after it faster and cheaper. Read more in Standard Vs Deep Cleaning.

Every home is different

A downtown studio, a Plateau walk-up and a family house in Laval don’t need the same cleaning. Some clients book weekly, others every two weeks or once a month. Pets, kids and busy kitchens all change where the time goes. Before your first visit, we ask about your home so the cleaning fits it, not a generic checklist. See our Cleaning Service Prices Montreal for an idea of the cost.

Where we clean

We clean homes across Montreal, Laval and Longueuil: regular House Cleaning Services Montreal, one-time deep cleans, and Move In Move Out Cleaning Montreal, very popular around July 1st.
